I have lived down the street from a Wendy’s here in Chicago for the last 2+ years. It seems that EVERY time I go there to get food I am dealing with infuriating service and circumstances. This last time was no exception. Putting Ribfest off for a day, (because it’s supposed to be beautiful tomorrow) I decide to get a burger and nuggets from Wendy’s. Now I know that the service there is above anywhere else the worst you can find at any place that serves you in anyway. But I must be a glutton for punishment because it seems every time I say to myself “maybe this time won’t be so bad.” Gah.
This trip began with me next in line to order, but that doesn’t mean I get to quickly. The line was held up by none other than their own worker ordering her lunch for her break. When she now notices the line is 5 long behind her, what would you think her response was? “Hey, yall got a line!” What customer service. As three ‘clocked in’ Wendy’s employees fuss with a machine that they say is ‘broken,’ finally someone starts taking orders. As this continues a young girl and her much older father are standing behind me, then next to me, and all of a sudden are now ordering their food before me. That’s right, while all this mess happens they decide that this ‘line’ they are standing in is whomever can touch the counter first. I’m at a loss for words as they go through getting their food and ignoring me.
Finally I’m asked what my order will be. But I’m asked by I assume was the woman in charge, not at a register and standing behind two other employees. I must shout my order over the drink machine that sits in the middle of the counter and repeat it the three times they asked me to. As if it hasn’t been enough, the kid at the register doesn’t even realize I have ordered food and has gone on to the customer that was two behind me when I first got in line. I must wait for him to pay now because no one rung up my food.
So, how long does one wait when they are next in line at Wendy’s? Try 20 minutes and after two people behind you have already gone. Every time I think Wendy’s has gotten as bad as they can be, they get worse.
