I found this video through someone on Facebook today. It’s sort of depressing, but it’s also really neat if you’re into the same stuff that I am. I’m fascinated by zombie fiction, end-of-the-world stories, etc…basically anything that involves people living in a land previously destroyed in some form or another. The Fallout series of video games are some of the most enjoyable for me, and I’m loving the Undead Nightmare expansion to Red Dead Redemption, in which the protagonist revisits every major landmark from the original game after a zombie outbreak has taken place. I love being able to explore places that people once loved but are now in ruins. Does that make me weird? No. Maybe.

That’s why I thought this was so harrowing cool. This is footage from Six Flags New Orleans, which was shut down before Hurricane Katrina hit and has not reopened or even maintained since. My research shows that there are plans to demolish the park next year, and people are taking advantage of wasteland exploration while they can. I’ve found a bunch of videos of people taking footage of abandoned rides, walking through food stalls, walking along roller coaster tracks, etc. Watch this and just TRY to tell me that it wouldn’t make an awesome level of the next installation of Fallout.
