Dear Facebook-using America,
It would appear that my plan to conquer Twitter isn’t panning out as quickly as I had hoped, so I call upon you to start a more reasonable trend that is, in fact, very fun to be a part of. It takes place every Wednesday and is called, if you could believe it, One-Letter-Off Wednesday.
First, an introduction.
To construct a one-letter-off puzzle, you need only think of a movie title and change just one letter so that the resulting title takes on a completely different meaning. Then all you need to do is make a clue as to what the original movie was and what it has been changed to.
Example A: In this WWII movie, a group of soldiers must go into enemy territory to rescue a shade of blue.
Example B: Bruce Willis’ character would rather perform shovel-based labor than to reside in a country without persecution.
The examples above are what you would post as a Facebook status. Then you wait while your friends and enemies alike have fun trying to solve the puzzle and post an answer back (which in the cases above are Saving Private Cyan and Live Free Or Dig Hard, respectively). When someone gets your puzzle right, you would congratulate them and promptly think of a new and better puzzle. This is only the third Wednesday that I’ve been doing this and it’s already inspired a number of people to follow my lead; I’d love to get to the point where I see people that I don’t know start to make one-letter-offs.
Make it so.
