After my recent post on buying corrupted files to use on teachers and bosses, as a way to get a short extension on a tight deadline, I got a Facebook comment from Billy at MyCoolBlackFriend.com with instructions on how to corrupt a file for free.
There are plenty of ways to corrupt a file yourself. You could take another file and just rename it to filename.DOC when you open it in word it would say that it’s a corrupt file. You could open a .doc file in notepad and delete out a huge chunk of the “gibberish” you see in the file and then save it. When you open it in word it would appear as a corrupt file. You could also password protect the word file by “accident” send an unprotected copy later.
Here’s a step by step guide to the first method to corrupt a file for free:
Change a different file to a .doc file:
- Find a file that has a different extension than .doc. File extensions are how your computer know what program to use to open and read the ile. So if you locate a picture you took or something, you should be fine. Any photo downloaded from Facebook should work. Those have the extension .jpg normally.
- Make a copy of the file so you don’t lose the original.
- Right click the copy. Select “Rename”
- Rename the former photo something like “[PaperTitle].doc”
- Test opening it to make sure it worked.
WARNING: Be sure the file you use as the dummy corrupt one isn’t dangerous or offensive, in case you get found out.
If you can think of any other ways to make a corrupt files, please comment with them so we can all benefit.
