I have had the pleasure recently of viewing two episodes of Family Matters.
In the first episode, it is a completely acceptable reality for Steve Urkel (what a nerd!) to invent a time machine, travel back to the 1700s onto a pirate ship, somehow not terrify the pirates when he appears on their ship, and escape back to the present ALL THE WHILE the present is still somehow taking place without them. As if going back in time is like going to the grocery store.
In the second, it is perfectly reasonable that Steve Urkel (NERD!) accidentally invented… apparently the ability to read minds. Nobody in the Winslow family seems to shocked or amazed, rather, they are sort of pissed off at him. Urkel (nerd-kel) can’t seem to control the new ability he invented. The way he gets rid of this power, is he runs his machine in reverse. That, in itself, doesn’t make any sense at all. As a result, he gets short term memory loss. That’s the end of the episode. He is permanently brain damaged.
In short, Family Matters is completely bat shit crazy and exists in a reality that lacks a junior high education.
oh yeah, and this happens in the show (not in the mentioned episodes, but this is something the show is highly remembered for)…
I’m not sure how to feel about the part where someone is planning on poisoning Urkel.
(Oh, and Carl Winslow is really fat. In this episode, he lets some sort of knock-off boy scouts (the junior woodsmen) tie him up in gauze (I didn’t gather how or why). When they leave him wrapped up on a chair after hearing the ice cream truck, he calls after them “well at least get me a cream sickle!” What a lard-o.)
