Aetna, a health insurance company, made a clerical error when calculating my doctor bills from four years ago when I had mono. The result?
I got a check yesterday for $56.58.
Aetna assured me that they made a simple mistake, and they totally weren’t trying to screw poor college students.
This is what I love about insurance companies. Aetna spent years in court trying to defeat a lawsuit that clearly proved they had miscalculated on thousands of students heath insurance claims. That’s how they respond to simple mistakes.
I have nothing against insurance companies. But I do have something againstt companies that try to legally wriggle out of paying back money they “miscalculated”.
This shouldn’t have required a class action lawsuit. Someone at Aetna should have figured it out and Aetna should have contacted me to fix it. The State of New York, and a massive legal team shouldn’t have to force them.
My bills were not very high, so that $56.58 represents a largee percentage of the cost. I can only imagine what students with much worse health conditions are getting back right now.
