OF HAVING A GREAT TIME!!!!
I was summoned for jury duty this morning to the Cook County Circuit Court on 2650 S California Ave. Seeing as how it would take transfers from bus to train to bus to walking, I decided that taking a cab would be the best choice. And it certainly was. While on my cab ride I encountered 2 accidents on Lake Shore Drive, thus forcing me to be late to jury duty. The driver asked me, “When are you supposed to be at the court house?” I responded “Fifteen minutes ago”. We shared a hearty laugh. We then bonded over our incredulity at the traffic and our general preferences for sunny weather.

Luckily enough for me, processing takes SO long that nobody came close to noticing that I was a half hour late – SCORE! I then got felt up by this big, strong, cop and I didn’t have to pay a dime! I offered to pay, but he politely declined. The cop also ran my bag through an X-Ray to make sure nobody planted a bomb or gun in my bag. I was relieved to find out that nobody tried to pull a fast one on me, and again offered to pay the officer for his services. He looked at me like I had a penis coming out of my forehead! Just another benefit of being a tax-paying citizen!

I wish...
I then sat in a room with hundreds of other sleepy-eyed citizens eager to perform their civic duty! After about another 20 minutes of waiting, a nice man approached the microphone and informed everyone that two televisions were available for viewing and that with the digital switch, the signal might drop in and out. During the 6 hours we were there, we got glimpses of One Life to Live AND Days of Our Lives! I was so enthused to participate that, at times, I’d fall asleep with anticipation of getting my number called. I could barely contain myself.
LUNCH BREAK!!!!
Luck smiled upon me yet again at lunch time when I found out that we were right next door to a Popeye’s Chicken! I ran in front of everyone and was the first person in line at Popeye’s! I ordered a 2 piece dinner (white meat and SPICY, of course!)

Can't get enough of that Popeye's!
I returned to the court house only to get felt up again, FOR FREE! And, no, Shaq did NOT feel me up. I then sat waiting and waiting some more for my number to be called. No dice. As soon as I found out that I wasn’t selected for anything I was presented a big surprise, my check for $17.25!!!
All in all, today was a shining example of how great jury duty can be! Hooray citizen’s duties!!!
