I’m not here to gloat, or even grouch. I would just like to discuss with you how I, as a life long Minnesota Vikings fan, feel about this whole ordeal now that it has to be completed.
I am truly surprised. Football is something that rules my life from August to February, and just recently it has spread to the rest of the months of the year. So in the off-season with all the circus surrounding the story of ‘will he, won’t he?’ I was secretly loving it. It was compelling football talk in the middle of the summer, what is not to like? And not only that, it was info about my team.
But here we’re talking about a QB that I have been trained to hate for over a decade and a half and he would be on my side. My head couldn’t wrap around it.
But I remember just last summer cheering on a certain Jim Edmonds as he won games single handedly for the Cubbies. Hell, Culpepper is on the Lions and you don’t see me throwing a fit. Sure it’s not quite the same thing but you get my point.
Now let’s think about football how it actually is, an entertainment business. Try to think about Brett Favre like The Rolling Stones. Have they done anything worth noting since maybe the early 80’s at best? No, but we’re not going to tell them to quit if they can still go out there and have fans that want to watch them. If Favre wants to and can, then why can’t he? And should the Stones stay in Great Britain because that was where they got big? Poppycock. So Favre has gotten out of Wisconsin to do his ‘act,’ I would think most Wisconsin’s would want to get out too.
So how do I feel about the oldest player in the league having his wrinkled, liver spotted hands on the ball every offensive play? Beats Tavaris Jackson. I’m sure ‘Chilly’ saw how horrible Jackson played in the first pre-season game and decided he’s wasted enough people’s time on this guy. Raw athleticism the guy has, but there’s more to it than that. So in a few days we’ll see Jackson depart Minnesota for some team looking for a back-up. So if Favre plays like an actual 40 year old man, then we’ll go with Rosenfels. We were heading there anyway.
So in total I think if Favre is winning games consistently this season, I’ll be rooting for him. Winning fixes everything. And it’s amazing the power of a logo.
