After reading Brian’s ISU Memory, I couldn’t help thinking of what my favorite was. But there are too many good ones for me to pick a favorite, so I settled on one where being at ISU and the support of ISU made a big difference.
The summer between my junior and senior year, we got to shoot a feature length film in 3 weeks. Nick, Brian, and I used to work all the time with CNGM Pictures, a film company here in Chicago. We had a script we wanted to shoot, but it needed a college setting, and the cast and crew were only available during a three week time period. As an independent company, it was hard to get support from anyone, since they all wanted money for stuff. We had an apartment that would work for all of the at home stuff, but we still needed a lot of on campus sets. We also needed a lot of people and support. Plus we needed everything to be available during the few weeks we were all free to film.
ISU was gracious enough to donate the spaces we needed, and the fine arts community (students and professors) that was around over the summer was invaluable to the project. I will never forget shooting that film. I’ve never worked more, slept less, and had fun like those weeks.
So thank you ISU for making that happen. Keep giving students those kinds of opportunities. And again, I’m sorry for lighting all that stuff on fire. It was really important to the plot.
