This is a late addition to “Annoying Week.”  Enjoy!

Five Annoying Things about Twitter

Surely by now, almost everyone knows about Twitter.  While it hasn’t had the ridiculous success of sites like Facebook and Friendster, it does have quite the community.  If you use Twitter, you already know that businesses have contests via twitter and give out prizes, you know that you can get a near play by play of how your favorite sports team is doing during a game, and you know that you and your friends likely have idiotic #hashtags.  Twitter is really fun, and I recommend people check it out.  But before you find out for yourself, I want to help you know about some of the annoying things/people I’ve experienced through twitter.

1. Shaq (@the_real_shaq)

He am Kazaam!

Oh man, when it comes to ridiculous tweets, Shaq really is ‘da man.  With tweets like:

“if you look up in the sky you can see stars, if you keep looking, you may even see pluto, but dats why pluto is pluto it can neva b a star,”

its easy to see why I choose to follow him.

The annoying thing about Shaq, is that he often tweets messages like the one above, in bulk.  Typically he sends about 7 of those within a ten minute span.  There have even been times where my entire twitter feed was 70% Shaq.  Maybe loyal Shaquasions* love his constant tweets, but I find them at least a little bit annoying.

2. Stan Lee (@smilinstanlee)

He am Insane!

Stan Lee provides a similar annoyance by also tweeting in bulk.  While his tweets aren’t babbling nonsense like Shaq’s tend to be, they are every bit as annoying because he tweets multiple paragraphs of information all at once.  Doing this requires multiple tweets for one singular idea, and makes his tweets appear in backwards in my twitter feed.  Here is the most recent example:

“So let Marvel’s True Believers unite with my brave Brigadiers and get behind Mighty Marc, because hey, the best is yet to come! Excelsior!” 10:29 PM May 3rd

“And remember–Marc wants a great Spider-Man movie that’ll bring new luster and glory to our web-swinger as much as we do!” 10:28 PM May 3rd

“I could tell by the dynamite ideas he proposed that Marc’s gonna bring new excitement and a new sense of wonder to ol’ Spidey!” 10:26 PM May 3rd

“The mighty Mr. Webb is smart and hip– and he cares about being true to Spidey as much as I do. And remember, he’s also a great director” 10:25 PM May 3rd

“After meeting Marc. I was certain Marvel had made a great choice to direct Spidey 4– and not just because of his table manners!10:24 PM May 3rd

“Had a great time today. Lunched with Marc Webb who’s gonna direct Spider-Man 4. First time I’ve met him. Lemme give you my impression—”10:23 PM May 3rd

You would think that someone as nerdy and geeky as Stan Lee would understand the mechanics of Twitter a little better, but apparently he is a NiTwitt**.

3. The search engine on twitter

Good luck.

The search engine on Twitter is pretty terrible.  For whatever reason, I have never had an easy time finding people through the search engine.  That’s annoying.  I hear that it is a little better than it used to be though, so I won’t dwell on this annoyance.

4. The #hashtags my friends and I make never go big.

bonertime

This is a more personal annoyance, but I know for a fact that my friends and I have deliciously decadent #hashtag games.  Some of those games include but are not limited to: #coffeehaiku, #ihaveaboner4, #fruitmath, #willsmith, #calmmovielines, and #duck.

If you follow @octavarius, @keithhabs, @tinzrules, @mattasaurus, @cjbogue, and @lolztellvi, you will see many of these games, as well as many new ones, being played.  Please join us!  Also, you should really follow @lolztellvi.  He put’s shaq to shame in the nonsense category.

5. Robert Hughes (@KnoxRobert16)

He am 2 DAMN BUSY FOR MARC!

If you want to witness what appears to be a runaway rollercoaster of confusion, @knoxrobert16 is your man.  Whether he’s “havin’ a damn bad DAY!” or just being a “Day-van Cowboy,” you are never sure of what you are going to get by following Robert.  He averages about 15-20 tweets a day, and if you follow him closely, you may be able to catch him livestreaming himself at home on his blogTV account.  He won’t be doing much, but he’ll be there and you can talk to him.

Following Robert can be a little annoying at times, but it’s something people should experience.  It will make you stronger.

So those are some of the things that make Twitter a bit annoying.  But don’t let that discourage you from twitter.  It’s fairly noncommittal, and if you have a smart phone, it is extremely fun.  If nothing else, you can win things on Twitter.  I won a signed @NHLBlackhawks magazine!

I did it!
